That UCT is confronted with a shrinking public fiscus and scrambling for third party funding is not to be underestimated. Most universities globally find themselves being quasi-privatised by stealth through austerity funding conditions. But whether setting up shop in the market of education is the answer is far from a foregone conclusion.
