Argentina's Milei vetoes university funding law

Argentina's President Javier Milei vetoed a university funding law passed by Congress last month, the official gazette showed on Wednesday.

The legislation aimed to increase and restructure the budgets of public universities.

"The promotion of a measure like this one, which disproportionately increases public spending without sufficient resources to cover it, creates a fiscal imbalance that threatens macroeconomic stability," the official gazette stated.

The law would cost the state 1.069 trillion Argentine pesos ($750 million), it added.
