Rebecca, I sailed with Ukrainians on cargo ships for 14 years, prewar. They were the best crews that I have sailed with. I got on super well with them and learnt to speak some Russian. They all speak Russian and their English ranges from not so good to fluent. Ukrainian is a sort of localized Russian. It is truly embarrassing how the ANC behave. How could I face those brave sailors today? Are they still alive? ANC voters, please reply. If you have the guts!

I worked briefly in the Ukraine just prior to the war - including the far eastern disputed region where we had to enter through antitank fortifications. The russians invaded and bombed every hospital there to the ground - despite many still harbouring staff and patients and terrified civilians. The ANC support for Russia is truly disgusting and a crime against humanity. Angie Motshegka standing there at Putin's military parade is abhorrant. I salute brave citizens who vote the ANC out.

Dear Rebecca, huge thanks for your reporting. The stance of the dominant party in our land, in South Africa, is a scandalous disgrace and history will not be kind. Meanwhile we all see the devastation in Ukraine. And the daily Russian imperialist aggression.
