Years of upheaval in the media space have taken their toll globally. Media market failure, caused by many swirling currents of the last 30 years, and, sadly, often with the participation of the media itself, has led to the demise of established business models and, with them, our ability to deliver on our mandate.
And there’s more trouble on the horizon, including:
- AI as both a business and media tool and a weapon of war
- Resurgent global authoritarianism
- Incoming alliance between Big Tech and autocrats
- Climate crisis that’s now upon us.
We are running out of time
Choose Truth is a campaign designed to gather global media around the issues we can agree on. It is part of the 2024 World News Day which is held on 28 September and is supported by 800 partners globally and is a blueprint of collaborations to come.
If we all want global, fact-based news media not to go extinct and, with it, global democracies, we will all have to do things differently.
