Pravin Gordhan was 'a baobab who stood firm against all storms'
Pravin Gordhan’s 50 years of public service in South Africa took him from a young anti-apartheid activist to a determined taxman and finance minister, and eventually a central figure in the battle against State Capture, standing strong despite relentless challenges and attacks.

Very sad, he was looking forward to growing avocados - a hard working, dedicated man. May he rest in peace and rise again in everlasting glory. Condolences to his lovely family.

I always felt that Pravin was a man of uncompromising integrity, rare these days amongst politicians! Whenever I listened to him, or read what he had to write, I didn't feel I had to 'read between the lines'. I also think that his political colleagues felt the same way. RIP.

What a brave hero of South Africa this man was! We owe him a huge debt of gratitude for saving the country from becoming another failed African state, with a 'President-for-life'. Rest well Mr Gordhan. You will be missed.

He was not liked by those who wanted to destroy our democracy. They called him names. They threaten him and his family. Still, like a baobab, he stood steadfast, created a modern SARS, and delivered the best budgets in our new democracy. Rest in eternal peace, dear servant of the people.

We mourn the loss to the country of a man of integrity and principle. One of the "greats" of the UDF. We mourn the paucity of his like in the leadership today.
Hamba kahle, mkhonto wesizwe.

He was in the bus when his mates drove it over the cliff.
Edit, Ahh censorship, great way to be a maverick, truth hurts some, but the african way of not speaking ill of the dead is not the way.

You neglect to mention that you refer to your personal truth.
It is certainly not mine.

What an incredible life of dedicated service. Sadly denied the fruits of a well deserved retirement. South Africa will be all the poorer without him.
