Ex-miners’ families reveal the hardship of securing silicosis compensation from apartheid’s gold mines

In a landmark class action victory five years ago that led to the establishment of the Tshiamiso Trust, gold miners who became ill from their work underground were promised payouts that would change their lives, and ease their pain and suffering. But for many ex-gold miners and their dependants, their pain became aggravated when trying to claim.
