UN Food Systems Summit was not destined to be perfect, but it made a landmark achievement

Summarising the recent summit, UN secretary-general António Guterres said: ‘Many of the world’s food systems [are] fragile and not fulfilling the right to adequate food for all.’ Hunger was on the rise, three billion people could not afford a healthy diet, and ‘malnutrition in all its forms – including obesity – [is] deeply entrenched, leading to a broad range of negative health, education, gender and economic impacts’. But did the summit achieve anything?
