  • Anne Felgate says:

    Hmm
India doesn’t have a white majority
Normally you hit the nail on the head
    The list is purely political
    Economic ties make the decision

    • Jane Crankshaw says:

Perhaps Preti Patel is not happy with the recent Phoenix incident which was a racist majority/minority incident! I am amazed that Pakistan gets on the green list – think of the insecure border with Afghanistan and the Covid potential! But then again, Conservative MP, Ben Goldsmith,is not only Boris’ mate but also the ex brother in law of the Pakistani President. So it’s not what you know but who you know…the buddy buddy system still works in Western politics!

  • John Buchan says:

Can’t speak on behalf of other red states, but in SA it may have something to do with the well documented (but never allowed to be mentioned by other governments) level of corruption, political incompetency and ability to mismanage the smallest project. In other words there is possibly a lack of trust in SA which is disappointing for those who wish to travel but in my view, perfecting understandable.

  • Allan Woods says:

This is quite unnecessarily disrespectful of a country which is working hard at reducing prejudices of all types – far more than most developed countries. A really cheap shot and not worthy of being published in a journal like DM.

  • Rian Rademeyer says:

Only 16%in SA vaccinated. 70% in the UK. We are having variants. What has race for to do with in. I’ve lived in the UK and they are tolerant in their legislation. This is an unfair statement. Ours is a systemically corrupt society and covid vaccinated certification not reliable. Our corrupt passport issuing by home affairs caused us now to jump through hoops to get visas. Why would they take us off the red list?

    • Brian Cotter says:

Yes Rian we did have international terrorists travelling on South African passports. But hopefully we can get over the Covid passport issues, you know how reliable our Government Department computer systems are. We never have to be turned back at Home Affairs offices for example because the computers are down.

  • Fanie Rajesh Ngabiso says:

Race race race. Boring, blindingly incorrect, and pointlessly destructive.
