Why you should consider a coffee date this weekend

There’s really no point in rehashing what you’ve already heard from the meteorologist; there’s a cold front coming, so keep warm.

This is the second cold front in as many months, so you probably know what to expect. If the last cold front confined you to your bed with nothing to do except binge-watching movies on the nearest portable device, we’ve got good news. There’s a far more enjoyable way to keep the cold at bay this time around, and it doesn’t involve crossing your fingers and hoping there’s something good to stream.

While we’re on the subject of movies, think about the last movie that made you feel sentimental. Whether it was a sweet romance or a family-focused comedy, chances are it featured a scene with a coffee date. Coffee is a staple of modern cinema, whether it’s a pair of long lost friends reuniting, or two budding lovers meeting for the first time, a cup of coffee was always in arm’s reach.

Is there an old friend you haven’t seen in ages? How about a love interest you’ve yet to meet in person? Coffee is best enjoyed when the temperatures dip, so you’re probably going to be drinking it anyway to keep warm. Here are a few more reasons to step into a Mugg & Bean near you this weekend.

Coffee is affordable

You don’t need deep pockets to enjoy the best brews. It’s natural to think you’ll have to fork out a fortune at a coffee shop or restaurant that hand selects the best single-origin beans and international blends. If you’re buying your coffee anywhere other than Mugg & Bean, that’s a consideration you’ll have to make. But if you’re set on going to your local M&B, you can order anything from a single hot chocolate to bottomless coffee without hurting your wallet.

You get to have meaningful conversations

There’s something about being in a coffee shop that lends itself to thought-provoking conversations. Think about it: You’re seated across from each other at a small table with nothing but two cups of coffee between you. What else is there to do but chat?

They’re casual

Unlike a picnic date that requires you to fill a basket, no preparation is needed for a coffee date. And unlike a dinner at an upscale restaurant, there’s no need to make a reservation. While you should still wear something nice, there’s no need to dress to the nines, wear jewellery, or makeup.

Your first impulse is probably to stay indoors all weekend. But first ideas are rarely the best ones. Rekindle an old friendship or take things offscreen and meet your online date in person at your nearest Mugg & Bean. Professionally trained baristas will pour the perfect cup for you, and the menu has a decadent treat for everyone’s taste. And in case you’re worried about COVID-19 compliance, all the relevant measures are taken to keep you safe. Enjoy!  DM
