Uber to help with rides in Durban to help #RebuildSA

South Africans across KwaZulu-Natal have witnessed devastating impacts to their lives and livelihoods. And yet, despite the country’s recent challenges, South Africans are once again showing their determination and ability to get up again to #RebuildSA

To help the Durban community start to rebuild, Uber is offering riders 2 free rides (up to R100 per trip) from Friday, 23 July 2021 to Sunday, 25 July 2021. If riders are in the city of Durban, they will be automatically eligible for this discount, but should the discount not be visible in the “Promotions” section of your Uber app, they can enter the promo code HELPKZN212.

“We want to ensure that transport isn’t a barrier to #Rebuilding Durban. Whether you’re wanting to reconnect with friends or family, getting essential goods or helping a small business start to rebuild, we want you to be able to move around with ease,” explains Frans Hiemstra, Uber General Manager for Sub Saharan Africa.

As Durban came to a standstill, drivers weren’t able to earn. Not only will this help South Africans get closer to #RebuildSA, but support drivers to ensure they can put back much-needed earnings into their pockets as drivers will receive their full earnings for all trips taken.

Hiemstra adds, “While the trip is free for you (up to R100 per trip), we encourage you to tip your driver to show your appreciation.”

Safety remains a priority and Uber’s safety measures, from an in-app emergency button that links to private security to Covid-19 safety features, have been implemented to help South Africans ride with more confidence, as they reconnect with their community. More on safety at Uber here.

How to claim your ride if promo should the discount not be visible:

  1. Open your Uber app
  2. From the app menu, select “Wallet”
  3. Scroll down to “Promotions.”
  4. Tap “Add promo code”
  5. Enter the code and tap “Add”
  6. Enter your destination and request a ride as usual
  7. Terms and conditions, and Uber’s community guidelines apply.
