Judgment Date with Judge Dennis Davis, Episode 43
Prof Shabir Madhi: Government has dropped the ball on the Covid-19 vaccine
In this episode of Daily Maverick's series of Zoom interviews, Judge Dennis Davis talks again to Dr Shabir Madhi, Professor of Vaccinology at the University of the Witwatersrand. The theme: the latest on the Covid-19 vaccine - and you will not like what you will hear.
Absolutely fascinating and depressing in equal measure. This government has let us down yet again.
Many thanks Prof Mahdi for giving us this clear explanation of a complex issue – much appreciated –
If the government is not doing its job and hasn’t completed direct negotiations with a company such as Astrazeneca for the purchase of vaccines, is it possible for a vehicle like the Solidarity Fund to do so on its behalf? Given that the contracts are seemingly between countries and companies, and our country seems incapable, what other avenues are there to force the process? It seems appalling that we can contribute to trials to enable us to get ahead of the queue and then ineptitude and lack of political will drop the ball.
Couldn’t agree more with all that has been said especially the portion on the likelihood of contracting the virus from contaminated surfaces. See my articles (one peer-reviewed and one for a Food Safety Magazine) in which I (together with my co-authors) address the issue of whether the virus can be transmitted via food and food packaging. https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnut.2020.580551/full
