Trevor Manuel 1, EFF 0 in defamation case
When the EFF posted a statement on Twitter about former Finance Minister Trevor Manuel that Manuel said was defamatory, false, and unlawful, he took the Fighters to court. On Thursday morning, the court ruled that the EFF had to delete their statements, apologise, and cough up R500,000. But the judgment also holds a wider warning for those who post slander on social media and think they are immune from the consequences.
