Public Protector provisionally finds ‘serious irregularities’ in R255m Free State asbestos audit

Before he was shot dead in his Bentley in Sandton, businessman Igo Mpambani was involved in a R255-million project to ‘audit’ houses with asbestos roofs in the Free State. Leaked emails and documents link then premier and current ANC SG Ace Magashule to some of the proceeds of the huge contract. Daily Maverick can now reveal that provisional findings by the Public Protector suggest the contract was dodgy from the outset.
