By Tabelo Timse for AMABHUNGANE

While South Africa was caught up in the 2010 World Cup frenzy, Free State premier Ace Magashule was allegedly pulling the strings behind a multimillion-rand tender to provide soccer-related regalia. Seven years later, the contract has come back to haunt the premier, as the businessman at the centre of the deal has claimed that his company was used as a front for an entity allegedly close to Magashule.

[Kenyatta to begin controversial term](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-uhukiyy-l-x/)

Kenya's "democratically elected" President Uhuru Kenyatta is due to be sworn in today for a second term. Kenyatta was elected in a re-run of polls marred by allegations of fraud and intimidation. Primary opposition leader Raila Odinga will hold a "memorial rally" honouring the 50 or so killed during the police crackdown in the wake of the first elections. Kenyatta, however, seems to be largely allowed to take the presidency.

Just moments before French President Emmanuel Macron was due to land in Burkina Faso, militants attacked a group of French soldiers, wounding three civilians. The hooded individuals threw a grenade towards a French vehicle in Ouagadougou.

While Bali's volcano rumbles and spits, the nearby airport has been forced to remain closed due to ash levels in the air. Stranding thousands of tourists, Mount Agun's volatility could erupt at "any moment" according to experts. At least 140,000 Indonesians and foreigners are expected to be evacuated from the volcano's eruption zone.

[Some 800,000 cancers caused by obesity, diabetes](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-uhukiyy-l-q/)

A new study published The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology has revealed startling information about the link between obesity and diabetes. Researchers established that obesity and diabetes caused almost 6% of all new cancers diagnosed. The connection between the latter and cancer is a recent development, however, and has begun to rival smoking as a leading cause of various cancers.
