In the past few months, 35 people were murdered in Cape Town’s Hanover Park. Most victims were youths, some caught in the crossfire between rival gangs the Americans, the Laughing Boys and the Mongrels. “Gatvol” introduces to us seven women, six of whom tragically lost children in the warfare. This first episode of a four-part series gives us the opportunity to hear first-hand what it’s like to live through this trauma and how much harder it is to stomach considering the apathy of the cops.
