STORY OF THE DAY

[Analysis: It is time to review the appointment of Busi Mkhwebane](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-kuuitjl-l-p/)

By JANET HEARD

There had been persistent unease about whether the Public Protector, advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, was the fit and proper person to fill Thuli Madonsela’s shoes. After yesterday’s damning court ruling in the SA Reserve Bank case and amid the Zumafication of the country, can we afford to continue to give her the benefit of the doubt?

[Trump insists 'two sides' at Charlottesville](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-kuuitjl-l-x/)

The walk-back from condemning the Nazis was sadly inevitable. On Tuesday President Donald Trump stated that there was "blame on both sides" for the Charlottesville violence. The comments were immediately praised by KKK grand wizard and living back of lizards David Duke. Duke thanked Trump for condemning the "leftist terrorists". For Trump, outright condemning of a pack of racists and Nazis appeared harder than ever.

[Zimbabwe confirms Grace's return](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-kuuitjl-l-m/)

Zimbabwean first lady Grace Mugabe has indeed done a runner back home. Amidst confusion over her non-arrest, Zimbabwean officials confirmed the first lady's return to Grace, professing ignorance at assault charges now looming over her head in South Africa. For South Africa, allowing Grace out the country probably pales in comparison to allowing known genocidaire's a free ride. Letting VIP political leaders out of the country scot-free does however seem to be the country's new favourite past-time.

[Obamacare repeal could raise insurance cost: study](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-kuuitjl-l-c/)

An independent government study has revealed that cutting off a crucial Obamacare subsidy could actually force up insurance costs. Removing the "cost-sharing reductions" for low-income Americans would force insurers to increase insurance premiums by as much as 20%. This was revealed by the Congressional Budget Office today, as the CSR currently requires regular renewal by Congress.

[Albion sign on England midfielder](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-kuuitjl-l-q/)

Former English midfielder and now-former Everton player Gareth Barry has signed on with West Bromwich Albion. Barry signed a one-year contract with the club after a post-spending spree Everton agreed to cut him loose. The 36-year-old is currently struggling through an ankle injury but clearly could pose some value to Albion.
