Semenya seals world 800m crown
Caster Semenya took South Africa’s medal tally to six and added to her bronze in the 1,500m final by winning gold at the IAAF World Championships on Sunday night. Semenya set a new national record and moved to eighth best of all time. Lynsey Sharp finished last.
White House defends Trump’s Virginia response
The White House has defended President Donald Trump’s non-specific condemnation of Saturday’s violent ultra-right protest that resulted in one woman being killed and 19 injured in a deadly vehicle ramming attack. Trump’s initial response drew criticism after he laid fault at “many sides” rather than the white supremacists responsible. Subsequent videos from the crazies interpreting this as an “approval” surfaced, with many a chorus of “Heil Trump”.
Seventeen killed in vicious Burkina Faso attack
Jihadists have killed 17 people in an attack at a hotel restaurant in Ouagadougou. Security officials have closed off the capital and troops have been moved in. The attack is said to have been by an al-Qaeda affiliate group, and they are believed to still be within the Hotel Bravia.
