It is difficult to see how the ANC will make it through this weekend’s national executive committee (NEC) meeting without all these issues colliding around renewed demands for the party to recall Zuma from office. The evidence of the President being heavily implicated in the capture of the state by the Guptas is incontrovertible. But can the ANC pull the trigger?
Manchester police have released the name of the suspect responsible for the deadly Manchester bombing on Monday night. Twenty-two-year-old Salman Abedi is believed to have carried out the attack, himself dying in the process. Police believed that Abedi's parents had fled Libya under the Khadaffi regime, settling in Britain. No additional details were provided.
UK threat level raised to maximum
The UK's terror threat level has been raised to critical status. The heightened level means that authorities are anticipating a further, imminent attack.
Martial law in Southern Philippines
President Rodrigo Duterte has declared martial law for 60 days on the Philippines island of Mindanao. The measure was enacted because of the threat posed by a militant group based on the island. They are linked to Islamic State and clashes with security forces on Tuesday left three dead.
Tom Cruise has confirmed that Top Gun 2 is happening. Those old enough to know just how important this development is will be happy to know that filming is set to begin next year. Cruise indicated that he would certainly be playing a role in the film -- probably the leading one -- while the rest of the cast remained largely a secret. If that doesn't take your breath away, nothing will.
