Over four years after the Marikana Massacre, the Presidency’s announcement on Sunday that some police officers would be charged and compensation is ready to be paid was welcomed, albeit cautiously, by victims’ representatives, whose fight for justice has repeatedly been delayed.

Trump hints at an end to one China policy...
During an interview on Sunday, Donald Trump publicly mused over whether the one China policy should be continued if Beijing does not make some US-favourable concessions. Specifically invoking trade as a concern, Trump quipped, "I don't want China dictating to me". Risking outright trade war with China seems to be a very real prospect now.
... and denies Russian electoral meddling
Hot on the heels of kicking China on its bum, Trump was quick to deny reports of Russian hacking during the recent election. Despite widespread intelligence reports indicating Russian cyber attacks on both parties during the campaign, Trump said he did not believe it. In fact, on intelligence briefings in general, the president-elect noted, "You know, I'm a smart person. I don't have to be told the same thing and the same words every single day for the next eight years."
Surging methane levels a cause for concern
A new study released on Sunday has indicated an alarming increase in levels of methane gas over the past decade. Ten times more methane, to be precise, compared to the period 1996 to 2000. Coal mining in China and fracking in the US are suspected to be the primary culprits for this worrying contribution to global warming.
