STORY OF THE DAY

[State Capture: After a good day in the lawfare trenches, anti-Zuma momentum gathers force](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-djkrad-l-u/)

By MARIANNE THAMM

Crowds supporting the rule of law gathered outside the North Gauteng High Court on Tuesday as President Zuma, Minister of Co-operative Governance Des van Rooyen and Minister of Mineral Resources Mosebenzi Zwane sought to stop the release of the Public Protector’s report on State Capture while the court ultimately granted opposition parties and former MP Vytjie Mentor the right to intervene. Meanwhile, in another significant move, the fraud case against IPID head Robert McBride and two others has collapsed. All this amid growing calls for President Zuma to step down. It appears the country is nearing a tipping point. By MARIANNE THAMM.

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING

[Trump and Clinton mount furious attacks](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-djkrad-l-n/)

New polls now show a much closer race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. The Clinton campaign, furious at FBI director James Comey for launching an investigation without any new evidence, attacked Trump's stance on women. Again. Trump seemed restored in the wake of the fresh scandal, promising to scour the political earth clean of the Clintons. It's all getting a little biblical with less than a week to go to the vote.

[Scandal tears through Korean cabinet](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-djkrad-l-p/)

An ongoing nepotism scandal has seen Korea’s president, Park Geun-hye, replace her prime minister and two other high-ranking cabinet members. This followed the arrest and interrogation of a close friend of the president, who may well have directly influenced political appointments and other actions of state. State capture, it seems, is not limited to South Africa. The only difference being Korea's comparatively swift reaction and remedy.

[Hackers target Windows through Google](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-djkrad-l-x/)

A vulnerability exposed by Google has allowed a hacking group to exploit Windows machines. The group, called ‘Strontium’, are able to launch targeted phishing attacks at users who, upon clicking the required links, give the group access to their computers. A patch has since been released, but Microsoft has criticised Google for delays in patching their software.

[Rousey hints at retirement](http://email.touchbasepro.com/t/d-l-djkrad-l-m/)

Ronda Rousey has suggested her comeback fight against Amanda Nunes could be one of her last bouts. Rousey, who appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show, spoke about the tiring nature of long fight buildups, and said her schedule was simply too busy to focus on MMA. Rousey suggested she was ready to fight "right now", but a lengthy promotional campaign would only see the Nunes fight take place on 30 December.
