Wits university is determined to stay open. A senior academic told GroundUp on Monday afternoon: “We had significant disruptions today but we’re operating and classes are going on, albeit with low attendance. Students and staff were seriously intimidated this morning.”

A [statement by the Wits Executive Team](http://www.wits.ac.za/news/latest-news/general-news/2016/feesmustfall2016/statements/wits-remains-open-on-tuesday.html%22%20%5Ct%20%22_blank) at 18:00 said the university would be open on Tuesday.
