The 2016 local government elections will open the space for coalitions in hotly contested municipalities and areas where no party will in a clear majority. But opposition parties, particularly the Democratic Alliance (DA), are in desperate need of a game plan for the 2019 elections. Striking in the early hours of Monday morning, its epicentre was 41 kilometers (25.5 miles) south of the town of Propicia. No firm information on casualties is available yet.
