KZN police remove bomb shell from scrap yard

Durban – Authorities have successfully removed a mortar bomb shell casing from a scrap dealer in the Westmead Industrial Park near Pinetown, Durban.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said reports of the explosive device emerged early on Friday.

“Members from Search and Rescue were called out to a scrap dealer in the Westmead Industrial park near Pinetown this morning for a report of an explosive device on the property.

“It was identified as a 90mm mortar bomb shell casing. DBN Explosives Section were called to the scene and the device was removed.”

Zwane said the origins of the device were not immediately ascertained.

“We are still investigating.”
