Smoking laws to get even tougher now

Smoking outside, within five metres of the office will now be illegal, and companies whose employees do not comply will be liable for a fine of up to R50,000. This is according to a new gazette tabled by the Department of Health, which comes into effect early next year. The department's spokesperson said that smoking in public areas was not regulated enough as far as he was concerned, but that Parliament had deliberately shied away from regulating smoking within people's homes.
