Durban is the sole SA candidate to host Olympics

The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee said that "as far as they are concerned" Durban is the only South African city that has submitted a bid to host the 2020 Olympics. Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth were also invited to present their cases. It remains unclear if the other cities entered bids to be primary hosts or if they presented only the services they could provide in a supportive role to Durban. Also, did Sascoc invite host bids from all cities already knowing that Durban was the only one it would consider? Either way, Durban is it and now it's up to government to decide whether to submit an official bid to the International Olympic Committee. The IOC will decide on a host city for the 2020 Games in July next year. The IOC conference and bid session will be hosted by, funnily enough, Durban. Read more: Sapa-AP, via TimesLive
