New party to launch in Western Cape – mostly from old ID members

We were waiting for this one: a new political party will launch in the Western Cape. Called the Universal Civics Organisation of South Africa, it will be formed mainly out of old Independant Democrats members, who couldn't stomach being in the Democratic Alliance. Shamiel Abbas, Ucosa's spokesperson said that the party would focus on grass-roots politics, and would contest the 2011 local government elections and the 2014 national government elections. Abbas said the company already has 25 branches, with a minimum of 30 members per branch, in both rural and metro areas of the Western Cape. Read more: TimesLive.
