US slaps sanctions on 21 Iran-backed firms

State Department spokesperson JP Crowley announced on Tuesday that the US has slapped sanctions against 21 firms backed by the government of Iran, increasing pressure on Tehran to drop its controversial nuclear programme and for its alleged links to terrorist groups. The sanctioned companies operated in countries like Belarus, Germany, Italy, Japan and Luxembourg, as well as Iran. Read more: The Times of India
