BP says “static kill” has worked

BP announced in a statement that the procedure to plug the ruptured Gulf of Mexico oil well has worked. The company said that the pressure of the "static kill" procedure, which involves pumping mud down the well, is being controlled by the hydrostatic pressure of the drilling mud, which is "desired outcome". More pumping may still be necessary, but the company is looking to eventually seal the well with cement. Read more: BBC News
