Boeing Dreamliner still a dream deferred

Boeing's delayed 787 Dreamliner is only scheduled to fly for the first time this week. Airbus is way higher in the sky on this score, with OR Tambo getting to see that new flying bus early in 2010. Even as it takes its maiden flight the Boeing jet faces another nine months of tests before passengers board. The plane is way behind its development curve. It was originally supposed to fly in August 2007 and carry passengers in May 2008, but Boeing found unexpected hurdles with new composite plastics and struggled with the logistics of manufacturing at 135 sites around the world. So for now, the aircraft is a dreamliner deferred, but the costs are mounting day by day. Read more: Business Week
