Insult to the memory of Ayatollah Khomeini sparks angry debate

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Iranian supreme leader, has accused the country’s opposition of breaking the law by insulting the Islamic republic's founder, the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.  Khamenei has urged opposition leaders to "identify" those behind the insult to Khomeini, stemming from an incident last week when a poster of Khomeini was torn up. But opposition leaders say the incident, shown on state television, had been doctored. Ongoing protests have been sporadic since the country’s election in which the opposition claimed the poll was thoroughly rigged. For more, read the BBC
