Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has proposed new social benefits to Jewish settlers on the West Bank in an attempt to ease tensions with these settlers, now enraged by construction restrictions on the West Bank. Not surprisingly, the proposals were unwrapped 24 hours after thousands of settlers staged a demonstration outside his Jerusalem residence. Nonetheless, a government spokesman said the proposal was not related to the settlement slowdown. Rather it was designed to assist residents near the Gaza and Lebanon borders and Arab Israeli communities with transportation, education and health care. For more, read the AP
