Now Israeli settlers protest settlement freeze

Jewish settlers held a mass protest in downtown Jerusalem on Wednesday night in what they hoped would be the largest show of resistance to the government's new halt on settler housing in the West Bank. The demonstration was to take place outside the prime minister’s residence and the actual size of the gathering would be an indication of just how widespread support for the settlers really is. Meanwhile, the Knesset, Israel's parliament, has given preliminary approval to require a national referendum on any peace agreement ceding control of East Jerusalem or the Golan Heights.
