Karzai says Afghanistan will need help with its security until, well, 2024…

Afghan President Hamid Karzai said on Tuesday the country would be unable to bear the costs of its own security until at least 2024. Ouch. These comments underlined the Karzai government’s major dependence on American and Nato financing. These statements came as a dozen people were killed during an American raid east of Kabul, prompting a protest march by hundreds. Nato confirmed the raid and said militants were killed, but there were no reports confirming the claims that civilians had been injured. For more, read the New York Times
