US environment agency greenhouse gases are health risks

Just as the Copenhagen conference kicks off, the Obama administration’s environment agency took a major step toward setting federal government limits on climate-changing pollution from cars, power plants and factories via a finding on greenhouse gases and health that foreshadows new regulations to lower exposure to these gases. This finding declares there is compelling scientific evidence that global warming from greenhouse gases endangers Americans' health – besides those other effects like melting the ice caps and setting the global climate thermostat to “Tropical”. The Environmental Protection Agency’s announcement has been timed for maximum exposure and to nudge some global momentum towards agreement at the Copenhagen climate conference. It also means the Obama administration would move forward even if the US Congress does not act on pending cap and trade proposals. This finding, once actual regulations are issued, could produce real price impacts on industry and consumers. Regulations, once they are issued, could force the sale of more fuel-efficient vehicles, require plants to install costly new equipment and impact on energy prices as well. The EU and UN both welcomed the US declaration that greenhouse gases are actually threatening human health. For more, read the AP or the BBC
