Danes to lock up climate protesters in old beer warehouse

Cheers! Denmark will lock up climate change demonstrators in an abandoned beer warehouse during the UN summit in peaceful Copenhagen. One hopes they’ve rid the place of leftover beer fumes or police will also have to deal with the antics of drunken protesters. The three dozen steel cages can accommodate more than 350 troublemakers. No doubt they can hold lions, tigers and polar bears, too, that need to get away from the potential ravages of global warming. Critics say the facilities are over the top, but the cops say this will be the biggest police action in Danish history, so they are taking no chances. New laws have been rushed through parliament to allow for stiffer fines and extended detentions for those deemed unruly. Authorities have faced trouble everywhere a summit of this kind has been held, whether G20, G8 or about global hunger. This is about rich and poor and the lopsided effects of global capital.  At a G20 meeting in London recently, one demonstrator said she was there because the world's economic troubles amounted to spending billions on weapons and not helping the poor.
