Planning to see the Louvre during Christmas? Think British Museum

Mon Dieu! France has been hit by a strike by museum workers that has shut the Louvre and the Palace of Versailles, as well as the Musee d’Orsay. The Arc de Triomphe War Monument, the Rodin Museum, the Gustave Moreau Museum and the Pompidou Centre have also been affected. The protest followed a French government plan to trim its civil service, replacing only one in every two retiring staffers. Talks between union leaders and France's culture minister Frederic Mitterrand on Wednesday failed to resolve the dispute and the minister said the job cuts would go ahead.
