Did Google just make a concession to Murdoch?

Following Rupert Murdoch’s threat last week to block Google access to his newspaper’s websites, the giant search engine has released a statement to the effect that it will soon be implementing a First Click Free programme. Previously, Google News offered a loophole to users wishing to read articles on subscription-protected sites – going through Google would allow them in. Users of the programme will now not be able to look at more than five pages per day without being routed to payment or registration pages. Will it change anything? No, says the Washington Post, because the days of getting all your news from one news brand are over. Read more: Washington Post
