TiVo and Virgin Media join forces in UK market

After failing with its first crack at the British market, American set-top box maker TiVo is back for another go. This time the company has teamed up with Virgin Media, in a move that will pit the venture against the likes of BSkyB and Project Canvas. Due for release next year, the high definition set-top boxes will allow subscribers to access the Web and record TV programming to a hard-drive. TiVo will be Virgin Media’s exclusive partner in the UK market, and will provide the middleware and software for the company’s next-generation pay-TV products. Meanwhile, in the US on Wednesday, TiVo posted a third-quarter fiscal loss – but analysts expect this latest deal to turn the brand’s fortunes around. Read more: The Independent
