Don’t rain on my Hajj parade

The strongest rain to fall on the annual Hajj pilgrimage in many years flooded roads, snarled traffic and added hazards to concerns already being voiced about the possible outbreak of H1N1 flu. Mecca and the Red Sea coastal city of Jiddah often see heavy rains during the winter months. The Hajj takes place at this time of year as the Islamic calendar follows a lunar cycle, rotating holidays and fasting periods throughout the year in a multi-year progression. For more, read the AP
