UK Iraq war commission examining WMD claim

Moving quickly, the British Iraq inquiry is set to examing former senior Foreign Office staffers Tim Dowse and William Ehrman on the content of the intelligence made available to UK ministers regarding Iraq's WMDs prior to the US-led invasion. The reasons for going to war in Iraq - including a now discredited claim Saddam Hussein had WMDs - are a long-standing source of controversy.  Dowse was the Foreign Office's head of counter-proliferation from 2001 to 2003 and Ehrman was the department's director of international security from 2000 to 2002 and its director general of defence and intelligence from 2002 to 2004.
