Obama says ‘Woza’ to Zim rights group leaders

US President Barack Obama has presented two Zimbabwean women from rights group Women of Zimbabwe Arise with the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Award. Magodonga Mahlangu and Jenni Williams attended a White House ceremony, which is somewhat more welcoming than the reception they get on the streets of Bulawayo. Obama praised Woza's non-violent resistance against oppression and the “dictator” Robert Mugabe. Back in Zim, the two are enemies of the state, having been arrested more than 30 times. One magistrate called them “incorrigible unrepentant criminals”. Amazing what a trip across the Atlantic can do for perceptions. Read more: BBC, The Zimbabwe Times
