Despite being unable to accept the awards himself, Michael Jackson won four posthumous prizes at the American Music Awards. Jackson is now the most-honoured musician in the ceremony’s history with a total of 23 wins. Jackson was named best pop/rock male artist and best soul/R&B male artist at Sunday's ceremony in Los Angeles and his greatest hits compilation, Number Ones, won the best album award in both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories. His brother Jermaine picked up the trophies and said his sibling's message “would live on forever”.
