Traffic surge crashes Ebay

The Christmas rush traditionally places a strain on auction site Ebay’s servers, but this year the surge has caused the site to crash. The cause? Ebay has expanded its business model. What was once the preserve of individuals and small businesses has now become a hunting ground for large retailers, whose inventories appear to have been underestimated by the online giant. Ebay currently has more than 200-million live listings, 33 percent up on the corresponding period last year. The site crashed at around 11am Pacific Standard Time on Saturday, and on Sunday a notice said the company was still trying to resolve the technical problem. Read more: Financial Times
