Rare Darwin book found in toilet. Quick, check the carton before it goes to the jumble sale!
Christie’s auction house says one of only 1,250 copies of the first edition of Charles Darwin’s “On the Origin of Species” will be auctioned on Tuesday, the 150th anniversary of the publication of this enormously influential volume. It was found on the reading shelf of a family's guest lavatory in Oxford. The price is expected to be in the region of $100,000. This year also marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin. Darwin formulated the theory of evolution and in books such as “On the Origin of Species” and “On the Descent of Man” created a revolution in geology and biology.
