Soccer war smoulders between Egypt and Algeria

The row over Algeria’s 2010 World Cup qualifier win over Egypt has seen Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak vow he will not tolerate the "humiliation" of Egyptian nationals abroad, according to the BBC. Algeria won the crucial play-off in Sudan, but each side has accused the other's fans of attacking their supporters. Now it seems Cairo is in the grip of soccer fever, with thousands of riot police on the streets. Earlier, Egypt recalled its ambassador from Algeria, after marauding fans ransacked the offices of Egypt Air as they tried to get tickets to the match in Khartoum. Read more: BBC, CNN, BBC
