KIA opens new gigantic car plant in Georgia

The town of West Point, Georgia, had full reason to celebrate on Tuesday as the fast-ascending Korean carmaker, Kia, opened a new auto plant there. While most of the global auto industry is genuinely suffering, Kia is bullish about its prospects. Together with its sister company, Hyundai Motors, Kia climbed to 5th largest carmaker in the world. It produces 1.5 million cars a year, a number that can be dramatically improved after the opening of the 300,000-cars-a-year West Point plant. Kia expects it will sell around 350,000 cars in the US in 2010. Read more: BusinessWeek, AP
