Activist stages hunger strike at Spanish airport

Reports say a Western Saharan activist on a hunger strike in the main airport of Spain's Canary Islands has been told to appear in court on public order charges. The woman has been refusing food after being expelled by Morocco. She also says Spain refuses to let her return to the disputed territory. Morocco controls most of the Western Sahara, but separatists based in Algeria have long wanted independence. Aminatou Haidar was held by Moroccan authorities upon her arrival in Western Sahara's main city, Laayoune, her home, on a flight from the Canary Islands. She was then sent back to the islands without her Moroccan passport. Read more: BBC, AFP
