US wants Kenya to hand over Rwandan genocide suspect
The US has told Kenya to hand over a Rwandan genocide suspect it says the country has been harbouring for years. This comes at a time of deteriorating relations between the US and its east African ally, over a 2007 election that saw some 1,300 people killed and tens of thousands made homeless. The US says there is a culture of political impunity prevalent in East Africa's biggest economy. Felicien Kabuga is Rwanda's most-wanted man, and the US has put a $5 million bounty on his head. Meanwhile, the UN-backed International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha, Tanzania, overturned a 20-year sentence faced by the brother-in-law of former Rwandan president Juvenal Habyarimana (whose assassination in an airplane crash sparked the 1994 genocide) for organising a massacre.
