Obama asks still more questions on Afghanistan

The final exam for US President Barack Obama’s top secret, but highly public, and still ongoing Afghan war strategy seminar isn’t ready just yet. He still wants more staff work and details on the various options. Now, however, he also has to take on board the views of the US ambassador in Kabul, Karl Eikenberry, who has just checked in with a strong demurrer against sending more troops there as such an increase would only prop up a weak, corruption-tainted government. Eikenberry’s comments have heightened criticism about Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s leadership ability and determination. Most speculation, still, is that the Obama administration will send in some additional troops to bolster what is generally viewed as a deteriorating war effort. For more, read the AP
