Judge who jailed pirates murdered in Puntland

A high court judge known for jailing pirates, people-smugglers and militant Islamists has been killed outside a mosque in Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region, where many gangs are based. The judge recently jailed four members of the al-Shabaab group, which has been giving African Union peacekeepers in Somalia’s chaotic capital, Mogadishu, a torrid time of late, and who tried to shoot down President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed’s plane as he left for an AU summit in Uganda. The judge was shot several times in the head and chest. Three suspects have been arrested.Read more: BBC, New Vision
